"Dream On" -- A Sermon at Warren Point Presbyterian Church, Dec. 8

On Sunday, I was invited to preach and moderate a congregational meeting at Warren Point Presbyterian Church. The reason for the meeting is expressed in the motion that was reluctantly passed by the congregation after being assured that even if they voted "NO," their pastor would still retire:

That the Congregation of the Warren Point Presbyterian Church join with the Rev. Jeffrey N. Leininger in requesting the Presbytery of the Palisades to dissolve the pastoral relationship now existing between them, effective January 31, 2020, and grant him the status of honorably retired. The congregation consents to the dissolution in accordance with The Book of Order G-2.0901, and agrees that the Session shall (1) work out terms for Pastor Leininger's  occupancy of the manse beyond the date of dissolution and (2) pay any final compensation due him by January 31, 2020.

Jeff has been pastor there since September 1979. I met him when I moved to Franklin Lakes in 1985.

My message, drawing hope from the Lectionary texts (Isaiah 11 and Matthew 3) was "Dream On." The audio recording can be found here:

I still love planning and leading worship, especially preaching!
